Nothing Final

Never played final fantasy before, do I have to start from the first one?

So I'd like to start playing final fantasy but I would like to know if I would miss anything in the storyline if I didn't start from the first final fantasy. The seventh one looks awesome so I'd like to know some suggestions or advice from those who actually have played all of the them or majority or even if you started from the more recent final fantasies. also, what is the difference with the advent children one? Thanks!

  1. Just get whatever one you want, the 7th one is good, go for it.
  2. You can play them in any order you want, the story lines/characters are almost always different in each one though they are similar. Final Fantasy 7 was my favorite of them all. I've still yet to find a game with a better story line as enthralling as it. :) plus great combat system known to FF's and loads of secrets and hours of play!
  3. First of all, there is no real continuous storyline. They are all set in different ages, and so are in no way interlinked. I would further advise you not to buy the first, as it is a complete waste of money which would now be dismissed as an average-to-poor flash game. If you're looking for a solid one to start off with, number 6 has the highest ratings and the most solid plot and game mechanisms. You may have noticed from other replies that #7 has the most hype (OMG ITS SEPHY!!!1!!!1one!!!), but it is NOT the best, in my opinion not even making the top 3. Sidenote: You may also want to consider number 4, it was my first game and I found it really easy to pick up. Also, Advent Children is a FF movie. :/
  4. No, there is no official storyline to final fantasy, however some games do have certain spin off's. Such as final fantasy 7 has crisis core, advent children etc. And final fantasy 10 also has a sequel.
